WHAT: Bismarck Veteran's Library Summer Reading Kickoff! WHEN: Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. WHERE: Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library Plaza WHO: Free and open to children of all ages. Media is invited to attend. DESCRIPTION: Adventure begins at your library, where vibrant storytelling and interactive crafts spark young imaginations, and intriguing games captivate our young readers. Teens will find adventure through volunteer roles and programs designed to inspire, while adults can unwind with the perfect beach read or a gripping mystery. Our summer reading program celebrates lifelong learning and the joy of reading as a family, demonstrating that adventure truly does begin at your library. Embark with us on Thursday, May 30th, for our annual summer reading kickoff to celebrate this summer’s adventure theme. We will have the Burleigh County Library Bookmobile, crafts & activities, sidewalk chalk games, visits from Booker and Smokey Bear, North Dakota’s Gateway to Science activities, dancing with Northern Plains Dance, Dakota Zoo wild animal friends, lots of music, a Bismarck Fire Department firetruck, the Friends of the Library Children’s Used Book Sale, and many more fun adventures for the entire family! All are welcome to join in the fun for all ages!

Congratulations to all the Southern McLean athletes who competed at the State Track and Field meet this weekend in Bismarck. A special congrats to the girls 4x100, girls 4x400, and boys 4x400 for running season best times! Additionally, the girls 4x100 relay of Mae, Sydney, Sadie, and Monica and the boys 4x400 relay of Cody, Beckett, Quinton, and Dontaye *might* have broken school records! This is pending verification. 8th Grade ELA students finished up their novel study of "The Outsiders" this week. They finished up this unit by creating one pagers which is a collage of illustrations and written analyses on one page that make up an aesthetically pleasing and detailed interpretation of a piece of literature. They are one talented group of students.
